(“And He said „I have compassion for the crowd because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat?” – Mark 8:2”)

Values & Strategy

F.O.O.D.S. Ministry is (Fellowship-Oriented, Organized, Overflowing, Diverse, Sociable)

The values behind this Role are for the NLF F.O.O.D.S. volunteers to Be

  1. F = Fellowship-Oriented: This is the value of participating with Jesus in fostering, with food, a Spirit of Fellowship within His Body that flows directly out of the Relationship of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and in Him Whom we Live, Move and have our Being. Special effort is made to participate in this relationship with prayer, arranging seating in a face-to-face manner, and other creative ways inspired by the Spirit.
  2. O = Organized: This is the value of participating with Jesus in making sure that the food is prepared in an organized, safe and nutritious way that actually promotes, maintains, and even increases the overall health of our minds, bodies and spirits! There should be enough food without waste or shortage. There should be safe food, prepared, cooled, and heated properly. We should also plan to economize and handle waste and garbage in an environmentally responsible way as much as is realistically possible.
  3. O = Ornamental: This is the value of participating with Jesus in making sure that the physical atmosphere within which we eat is clean, attractive, and fosters our ongoing fellowship with a mark of Jesus’ good taste and grace. This would include flower arrangements, banners, signs, ribbons, cards and gifts (when appropriate), napkins, silverware & plasticware, table cloths etc.
  4. D = Diversity: This is the value of participating with Jesus in making sure that ALL the diversity of his people within the congregation is also seen and experienced in the foods that are prepared. Special effort should be made to meet the eating preferences of the majority culture in the church, but also the minority cultures from time-to-time, also. This will mean communicating with the diversity of people and getting their involvement on ideas and help in preparing such foods.
  5. S = Sweet: This is the value of participating with Jesus in making sure that those who serve in such a ministry do so sweetly, kindly and with grace. Oftentimes the experience of eating in the cafeterias and restaurants of our broken world are anything but sweet and self-giving. One of the marks of the Holy Spirit coming upon humanity is people “eat[ting] their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people.” – Acts 2:46-47.
