Values & Strategy

T.E.E.N.S. (are Trinitarian, Embraced, Encountered, Needed, Service-oriented)

The values behind this Role are for NLF Teens to Be

  1. T = Trinitarian: This is the value of participating with Jesus in making sure the Teens are educated in the Truth of Who Jesus is in His Relationship with the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), Humanity (them!) and Creation, and to help them see that this is the fundamental way to be, think and communicate about all of life!
  2. E = Embraced: This is the value of participating with Jesus in making sure that, above all things, there is a sense of simply “place sharing” and relating together as human beings and being distinctly embraced by God the Father, Son and Spirit as a group, while also being collectively embraced and enfolded within the entire life of the Church!
  3. E = Encountered: This is the value of participating with Jesus in making sure that the teens are aware of being encountered by the Trinity, personally, and, in turn, leading them to respond in kind to the Father, Son and Spirit through the spiritual disciplines of prayer, the scriptures, baptism, communion, fasting, meditation, etc. This will, in turn, lead to their encountering humanity and creation with Jesus, as Jesus does it!
  4. N = Needed: This is the value of participating with Jesus in making sure that the teens at NLF know in every kind of way that they, too, are a necessary part of the Body of Christ. In particular they need to have reinforced in word and deed that they have been given a gift (or gifts) chosen by the Holy Spirit with which they can recognize their fame in the eyes of the Father, and share that fame with the Body who needs them!
  5. S = Service-oriented: This is the value of participating with Jesus in making sure that the life of the Father, Son and Spirit is primarily a life of love and self-giving toward and for others. This self-giving includes taking care of oneself in body, mind and spirit, so that one has a whole and healthy life of personal strength with which they can give themselves to others (whether through their spiritual gift/s to the church, or their distinct and collective lives in the Church, toward the world, for the sake of Jesus.)

Specific Role Description

  1. Goals: To build and strengthen teen’s relationships with Jesus and each other centered on Jesus/His Gospel. To regularly meet, (twice a month as a group) with teens to teach, counsel, discuss, and help them encounter God the Trinity, especially through the Trinitarian catechism. Also, involve teens in individual counseling as deemed necessary.
  2. Sub-Tasks: Facilitate and discuss relevant topics of interest to teenagers such as bullying, premarital sex, suicide, alcohol and drug usage, self-esteem, teen obesity and other health problems, teen pregnancy, etc with Jesus as the focal point. Encourage and foster teens to become actively involved in the weekly care, upkeep, and general maintenance of the NLF congregational meeting place. Promote and encourage teen’s involvement in NLF ministries based on the analysis of their completed spiritual gifts profiles and expressed desire to participate in a specific ministry.
